Maple syrup cake in progress, would you add nuts to the frosting or to the cake?

To the frosting. When I'm making a bundt cake, I fill the bottom with 1/2 cup of pecans or walnuts, then add the batter. Looks great and the nuts get a nice toasty flavor.
